It's really something how a song can take you back to a specific moment in time. It sounds so cliche to say it, but it's true.
I am not a romantic person in the traditional sense. At all. My parents are both romantic, but my brother got all those sappy genes and I didn't get any. Unless I'm reading a book, romantic gestures usually make me roll my eyes and mutter something along the lines about that "not being real life". Luckily for me, my husband Troy isn't romantic either and he knows the real way to my heart is cleaning something so I don't have to do it or turning his shirts right side out before he puts them in the wash. Scrubbing the toilet? Now THAT is love!
The other night after dinner, we were listening to Beatles music (as we often do) and attempting to get the girls ready for the next day; lunches to pack, baths to give, clothes to pick out, when all of the sudden, The Beatles' song "In My Life" came on. My cousins, Kelly and Kristine, performed this song in the church when Troy and I got married. Hearing that song, took me right back to June 5, 2004 and reminded me of all of the reasons that we got married.
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
— The Beatles, In My Life
We both stopped what we were doing and danced. My youngest, Charley, was hanging on my leg while my oldest, Maya, was twirling around and we all just…danced. It was such a sweet, little moment amongst the chaos of everyday life.
"In my life, I love you MORE”. That's really what love is all about, right? Finding someone that you love more. What a gift.
Hmm....maybe I'm a little more romantic than I thought.
